Steel 75Ni8, 1.7 x 30 x 1000 mm

Spring steel with a high nickel content for high tool toughness. It is mainly used for saw bands for wood. Also suitable for the production of flexible and stressed knife blades. Due to its high nickel content and very good weldability, the 75Ni8 steel is also excellent as a second, bright component to Damascus steel, just like steel 1.2767 (19 655, K600) or steel 1.2714 (19 663, L6).

Heat treatment of steel 75Ni8

Hardening: 850 - 880 °C
Tempering: 180 - 200 °C for 58 - 60 HRC
Achieved hardness: 58 - 60 HRC

Chemical composition and other designations of steel 75Ni8

Chemical composition: C 0.72-0.78; Si 0.15-0.35; Mn 0.30-0.50; P 0.025; S 0.025; Cr 0.15; Mo 0.1; Ni 1.80-2.10
Other designations: 15N20, 1.5634

Supplied material

The material is heat-treated to a hardness of 45 - 46 HRC.
According to the production technology, the material may not be perfectly flat, surface corrosion may occur.
In some cases, the surface of the material can be modified by grinding or sandblasting.
Microcracks may appear on the surface of the material from production, therefore it is recommended to sand off approx. 0.1 - 0.15 mm from the top layer.
The material is split with a water jet, laser technology or a band saw.
In the case of cutting the material with a laser, the edge may be cloudy after the cut, so when cutting the material with a band saw, we recommend first sanding off the weak layer of the edge to avoid dulling the saw band.
We will send the chemical composition of the specific purchased steel, upon request.

Dimensional tolerances

Material thickness tolerance: +/- 0.28 mm
Material width tolerance: +/- 1.0 mm
Material length tolerance: +/- 3.0 mm
