    Description

Bubinga is a hard and very durable wood, native to western tropical Africa, found in southern Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Congo. The heartwood is pinkish-red to dark reddish-brown, it can also have purple or red veining. White wood is clearly demarcated, usually white to light brown. The fibers are straight or wavy, have a fine to medium texture with a slight natural shine. The pores are medium in size, with no specific arrangement.

    Properties

Bubinga wood is very resistant to external influences and wood-destroying insects. After drying, it is dimensionally stable. Wood is hard, medium to very flexible, has an exceptional strength to weight ratio. It has a very pleasing color, some species also have a unique drawing. Bubing wood resembles rosewood, so it is often used as a substitute.

    Machining

It is a hard, but overall easy to work with wood. It adheres well, turns and finishes. Pieces with crimped fibers can tear during planing. It is recommended to pre-drill when nailing and screwing. It is polished to a radiant shine and soft surface.
